Do you dare take the Path Less Travelled?
If you reflect on your journey, have you been taking the path less travelled?
As a visitor to my website, chances are that you are, so let me explain what I’m talking about.
A colleague recently told me that the university he guest lectures for has had the same economics text book for more than 35 years. You know, the one that assumes the world’s resources are infinite.
The way we do business must change, and this example demonstrates how hard it is to break away from deep-rooted beliefs and established norms. We find comfort in fitting in and not rocking the boat.
Transformative change comes from the courageous leaders amongst us who write the new textbook when the old one is outdated.
They often feel uncomfortable, lonely and misunderstood; their colleagues and peers don’t always ‘get’ them.
They’re motivated to contribute to something bigger than themselves and, while individual recognition and reward may fall their way, it’s not their driving force.
They’re taking the path less travelled, and we need more of them.
Circling back to my opening question:
-
Does this resonate wth you?
-
How do the people and teams around you measure up?
-
Is there an opportunity to bring them with you on the journey?
The Path Less Travelled is my theme for 2025.
It’s about supporting forward-thinking leaders and teams who want to exert more influence in our transition to a purpose-driven and sustainable world.
Do you want to join me and make it yours too?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Yours on purpose,
Phil Preston
